Yr Wyddfa is by far the busiest peak in Eryri National Park. Over 600,000 walkers reach the summit each year. Some paths to the summit also offer fantastic horse riding, running, and mountain biking opportunities.

Voluntary restrictions on mountain biking are in place at certain times of the year to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all on the mountain.

Yr Wyddfa Voluntary Cycling Restrictions:

From 1 May to 30 September, between 10:00 and 17:00, you should not:

  • Cycle to or from the summit of Yr Wyddfa along its bridleways, specifically:
  • Cycle any part of the Llanberis Path

  • Cycle the Miner’s Path from Pen y Pass to Llyn Llydaw

  • Cycle the Snowdon Ranger Path to the summit. However, you may use the lower section from Llanberis (Snowdon Ranger via Bwlch Maesgwm to Cwellyn)

  • Cycle the Rhyd Ddu Path from the Pen ar Lôn area to the Yr Wyddfa summit

These restrictions do not apply between 1 October and 30 April.

Laws that apply to cycling

Please remember that the law (Countryside Act 1968) requires cyclists to give way to pedestrians and horse riders when on bridleways.

Cyclists who ride “recklessly and without due care and attention … or take part in a race or trial of speed” contravene the Road Traffic Act 1988.
