Cyngor Gwynedd and Eryri National Park Authority are inviting local businesses to demonstrate their commitment to protecting our unique and beautiful region.

You can do just that by following the seven principles outlined below:

1. Support local.
Strengthen our regional economy by sourcing from local suppliers and promoting seasonal, locally produced goods to your customers. If possible, why not partner with other service providers in the region to create unique, collaborative experiences?

2. Celebrate local culture and tradition.
Encourage your customers to engage with Gwynedd and Eryri’s rich cultural heritage. You can do this by helping visitors experience the Welsh language authentically, sharing your knowledge of local myths and legends and paying tribute to modern-day traditions, e.g., from annual community events to Wales-wide celebrations like St David’s Day or the National Eisteddfod.

3. Promote sustainable travel.
Help us reduce the pressure on tourism hotspots by encouraging your customers (and staff, where relevant) to use sustainable transportation options. You can do so by sharing information on local cycle paths, bus services like the Sherpa'r Wyddfa, e-bike hire services and rail options for those travelling from further afield.

4. Minimise the environmental impact of your business.
Lead by example by running an environmentally conscious business. You can begin by: Minimising your business’ plastic-waste, providing adequate waste disposal for customers/staff and encouraging your customers to ‘leave no trace’. For specific guidance — direct them to the Gwynedd and Eryri Visitor Pledge.
Feeling inspired? You could go one step further by becoming a Gwynedd & Eryri Ambassador or a Plastic Free Yr Wyddfa accredited business.

Help look after your local community.
Encourage your customers to observe practices that are respectful of residents and other visitors— such as keeping noise levels light and respecting the property/rights of others. Your customers can achieve the latter by following the guidance in our Visitor Pledge — e.g., leaving no trace, parking responsibly, leaving gates as they find them and camping only in designated areas.

6. Encourage safety in the mountains and coast.
Support your customers’ safety and help alleviate strain on local emergency services by providing information on responsible outdoor practices. A great place to start is by displaying/sharing (and following) safety guidelines from Adventure Smart UK, the Countryside Code and Marine Code.

7. Lead a culture of positive digital engagement.
Promote responsible digital behaviours by guiding customers to share their experiences responsibly — e.g., by avoiding geotagging in overpopulated areas or by taking part in and posting about dangerous activities. Plus, be sure to post about your own sustainability journeys using the hashtags #Eryri, #Gwynedd, and #GwyneddAcEryriNi.
