On March 1st, 15 members of staff from Eryri National Park Authority will take part in the North Wales Pilgrims Half Marathon to raise funds for a charity with close links to Eryri.
The team is running in support of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, an organisation whose work is vital to people living in, working in and visiting the National Park. This year’s challenge is particularly significant, as the charity is celebrating its 25th anniversary on the same day as the event.
Speaking ahead of the event, Planning and Partnerships Director Keira Sweenie said:
“Those of us who live and work in Eryri see first-hand the pressures facing emergency services and volunteer mountain rescue teams. The Wales Air Ambulance plays a vital role in supporting these efforts, often making the difference in serious incidents. Taking on this challenge together is our way of showing our support for the service.”
The National Park Authority works closely with partners to promote safe visits within Eryri, and supporting the Wales Air Ambulance Charity is a natural part of this ongoing collaboration.
Elaine Orr, Regional Fundraising Manager for Wales Air Ambulance, said:
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to the staff at Eryri National Park Authority, who will be taking on the North Wales Pilgrims Half Marathon in aid of our Charity. The half marathon falls on the Charity’s 25th anniversary and it is lovely that the team will be raising funds for us on our birthday.
“The Charity needs to raise £13 million every year to keep our helicopters in the air and our rapid response vehicles on the roads. Fundraisers, like this one, will help us to continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most. We wish the 15 of them good luck with the half marathon. By fundraising for the Wales Air Ambulance, they are all playing a part in saving lives across the country.”
